Elmec srl was established back in 1979 by the partnership of two founding partners, Bordin Giampietro and Calore Adriano, who combined their entrepreneurial skills to create what is now, to all intents and purposes, a recognised and well-established business in the region, which has been operating for almost 45 years.
Over the years, Elmec has progressed from the production of small and medium series to large series by means of an ever-growing fleet of single-spindle mechanical lathes, which, since the mid-1990s, have gradually been replaced by the better performing multi-spindle automatic lathes that have enabled Elmec to make a quantum leap in the production of large series and thus, thanks to its technical capabilities, to acquire new customers and enter new business sectors.
Since the mid-1990s, the second generation of the Bordin and Calore families has joined the company, bringing that freshness and desire for innovation typical of the new generations, which have pushed Elmec even further into tackling the looming technological challenges of the new millennium.
In March 1999, the certification according to UNI EN ISO 9001 standard was obtained, given that quality and customer satisfaction have always been the focal point of our corporate policy. This achievement, together with participation in trade fairs in Europe, led Elmec to the acquisition of new international customers also operating in the automotive sector.
Therefore, it was decided at the turn of the millennium to set up a new workshop for CNC lathes with both fixed and sliding headstocks, as well as a renewed quality department equipped with the first multi-sensor measuring instruments with millesimal resolution.
These innovations make it possible to take on new challenges in the dimensional field by being able to produce complex articles with centesimal tolerances and surface finishes featuring an increasingly higher quality.
New requirements and an ever-increasing fleet of machines led to the expansion of the owned factory building by a further 1,000 sqmt, thus attaining 3,500 sqmt in 2001.
The difficult years that followed, characterised by market instability due to the banking crisis of 2008, did not stop Elmec in its constant growth and desire to invest in continuous innovation in the production workshop, gradually introducing new multi-spindle automatic and CNC lathes.
In the 2010-2020 decade, both the washing and the degreasing plants were renewed by switching from perchloroethylene machines to a safer and more efficient Ecoclean hydrocarbon plant: this plant allows degreasing levels that meet the stringent requirements of the automotive sector, too.
In the same years, the generational transition in the company was completed, and since 2016 the management and administration of the company has passed into the hands of the second generation of the Calore and Bordin families. The founding partners remain in any case actively involved in the company, not failing to provide their views and valuable suggestions for Elmec’s future strategies.
These are the years in which a technological renewal begins, which in fact anticipates the Industry 4.0 policy that will only come later. As a matter of fact, Elmec equipped itself with a MES system for monitoring production as early as 2016, and added four Vici Vision machines directly into the production line for the optical inspection of the items produced.
The current decade began with the severe pandemic that brought indeed the entire world to a standstill. Yet, thanks to its solid foundations and consolidated structure, Elmec was able to get through this difficult period without any particular problems. In 2021 it even decided to expand its production facility by a further 800 square metres by acquiring an adjacent building and using it as a warehouse, thus enabling the company to expand the area designated for the production workshop and to add the first CNC multi-spindle lathe in 2023, which will enable Elmec to take on new challenges in the years to come.
